About the distillery

The historic distillery has roots dating back to 1236 and the time of the Pluscarden Abbey although it was officially founded in 1824 by Robert Bain and Andrew Peary. The use of the term ‘official’ is important because the distillery was rumoured to be an illegal distillery which carried the name Milton and as fate would have it the Catholic Church briefly owned part of Miltonduff, specifically the local parish in Elgin was bequeathed a share of the ownership of the distillery in 1900 although their share of stock was sold shortly after. The addition of Duff to the Milton name comes from the family who owned the land the distillery was founded on.

Located near Elgin within Speyside, the water source is the Black Burn that flows from the Abbey’s old springs. At one point the distillery was the biggest distillery in Allied Distillers ltd range and it served as ‘Technical Centre’, where it housed an engineering centre and laboratory. The investment continued after the Allied Spirits ltd was taken over by Pernod Ricard as the distillery was used for the dark grain spirits plant – which turns the by-product of Whisky (grains) into animal feed.

About the cask

A bourbon cask aged for 19 years. The spirit was distilled in August in 1995 and bottled only in September 2015. The cask yielded 177 bottles which were bottled at cask strength, that being 51.4%alc this time. There was non-chill filtering or any other additives. The bottles for the Miltonduff release are all uniquely etched with a bottle number and we have continued our unique bottle design using glass etching which allows for the golden spirit to be the centre of attention. Your bottle will be especially presented in our unique Bespoke Ateiler Whisky Pouch

Our tasting experience revealed a bright start for the Miltonduff, presenting pineapple and a light ashy bouquet. On second inspection we are greeted with more citrus with a herbaceous grassy aroma shining through. The palate is fresh and bright, a chorus of soft sweet vanilla and cracked pepper rolls through to a malty grassy finish.

An impressive introduction from this Glen Keith which oozes thick sweet nutty fudge followed by a breeze of heather blossom. As you taste the whisky you will be welcomed by a surge of stewed fruits coating the palate later revealing sweet vanilla and treacle. Distilled 8th November 1995 and bottled aged in bourbon cask for 19 years.Cask number 171242 yielded 257 bottles.

About the distillery

Re-opened in 2013 after being mothballed in 1999 this incredibly rare distillery was fairly recently founded in 1957.

Located within Keith and sitting on the banks of the River Isla within the Speyside Whisky region, this distillery was originally a Meal Mill hence its location next to the river. The distillery was setup to adopt the lowland production method of triple distillation which creates a light bodied and dry Whisky with no peat; making it ideal for blends.  The destination of its spirit was for blends which were hugely popular in the United States at the time.  The continued popularity of Glen Keith allowed it to flourish in renowned blends, Chivas Regal, Passport and 100 Pipers Blends.

However, Glen Keith switched to double distillation as is more common in Speyside around 1970 in line with an increase in the number of stills too. Interestingly Chivas, who opened the distillery, adopted it as a laboratory to create different yeasts strains among other Whisky experiments and its production methods have always been modern for the time they were built and upgraded; it was the first distillery to use gas powered stills in the 1970s. Its limited single malt range only started to emerge in 1990 and afterward through independent bottling.

About the Lady of the Glen cask

The Glen Keith from Lady of the Glen was distilled on the 8th of November 1995. Aged for 19 years in a bourbon cask. Bottled on the 1st September 2015 the single malt retained a natural cask strength of 56.10%alc and yielded 257 bottles. Bottled without non-chill filtering or artificial colourings.

Tasting

(n) Thick sweet, fudgy richness. Mellow heather blossom.

(p) Stewed fruits becoming lighter with sweet treacle and vanilla to round off.

Here we have a fresh Glentauches with a bouquet of soft herbs and a shaving of light oak. The nose blossoms with bold citrus notes which are dancing on top of a blanket of grilled pineapple. Vanilla is apparent all the way through this whisky, later accompanied by honey and ashy vegetal agave notes. Distilled 16th December 1996 and aged in a bourbon cask for 18 years. Cask number 7817 yielded 213 bottles.

About the distillery

The distillery was founded in 1898 near Mulben within the blessed Speyside Whisky region.  Pioneering master blender James Buchanan and Whisky business man W.P. Lowrie elected to create just before the infamous Pattison crisis. The location was the Teuchers farm because of its proximity to good infrastructure. The distillery was designed by local Keith architect John Alcock and supervised by the esteemed Charles Doig & Son, famous for their distillery designs including Dail-uaube distillery and Talisker among many others. The distillery has endured survival to this day, despite the Pattison crisis and other dips in the industry, only being mothballed for a short time in 1985 and 1992.

The water source for the distillery remains the Rosarie Burn, reached via reservoir. There has a long been an association with Glentauchers being used in blends including Ballantines, Teachers and Chivas Regal. This is due to the high quality balanced and light bodied nature of spirit.

About the cask

Our uniquely numbered bottles were originally taken from an American bourbon cask that yielded 213 bottles. Aged for 18 years and bottled on the 1st of September 2015 at cask strength 56.5% alc.The release is only from a single cask and is non-chil filtered.

Tasting Experience

(n) Light pine, baked pineapples, slight citrus notes

(p) Sweet creamy vanilla, honey followed with an ashy peppery finish.

After pouring this Clynelish into your glass, aromas of rich vanilla evolve into cooked banana and toffee. This soft creamy dram coats the palate with dark honey beautifully accompanied by a wave of sweet spice. Distilled in 29th October 1997 and bottled in 1st September 2015. Cask number 12363 was aged for 17 years in a bourbon cask and retains a cask strength of 54.9% alc. The cask yielded just 267 bottles.

About the distillery

The coastal distillery of Clynelish located in Northern Highlands was constructed in 1968 although its roots go as far back as 1819 when the original distillery was founded by the Marquess of Stafford, and that distillery is now named Brora. Rumoured to have been founded to retain the market from local smugglers, the official reasoning was to take advantage of the local fertile land to support new farms.

The distillery’s uniquely coastal flavours are derived not just from its location but also from its practices. They still use barley that is malted in the Northern Highlands and the water is taken from the Clynemilton Burn located a few miles north of the distillery.

In 1779 the Bowmore distillery became the first licensed distillery on Islay of the Inner Hebrides, making it one of the oldest legitimate Whisky distilleries in Scotland. 

A host of owners have controlled this distillery since its inception including John Simpson, William & James Mutter, Sherriff's Bowmore Distillery Ltd, William Grigor & Sons Ltd. In 1963 Stanley P. Morrison ltd bought the distillery and increased the number of stills to four and provided further investment. However, it was in 1994 that the Suntory buyout took place which brought the distillery under Japanese ownership.

The distillery's iconic white buildings sit facing the Atlantic Ocean while the water source is from the winding Laggan River that meanders through peat bog and moss of Islay. The traditional methods of Whisky making still maintained by the distillery have ensured a consistent high quality of liquid that has gifted Bowmore among the finest reputations for Whisky.

Lady of the Glen is proud to release this limited edition 10 bottle only Sherry Cask release. The cask was among the last private cask to be filled while the Morrison’s owned the distillery before the Suntori buyout. 

Aged in a First Fill Sherry cask for 21 years, distilled 6th November 1990 bottled in 7th September 2012 and released at the rare cask strength of 50%

Each etched glass bottle is gifted in a dovetail oak box and delivery has been included in the price with exception to orders outside the UK where there is a £20.00 additional charge.

Immense Sweetness and nuttiness with subtle toffee, this single cask from the ‘Old Meldrum’ distillery is a sweet tooth delight. Distilled 1993 and aged in a bourbon cask for 21 years. Cask number 798 yielded 250 bottles at natural cask strength 56.4%alc.

About the distillery

From the 'Old Meldrum' distillery located in the Eastern Highland's of Scotland, although it is better known as The Glen Garioch distillery. Built by Thomas Simpson in 1797 it sits within the Highland Whisky region. In being built in this time it sits among only a small group distilleries founded in the 18th Century. The distillery sources its water from the springs on the nearby Percock Hill. 

Glen Garioch, pronounced Glen Geery, has been through a multitude of owners as would be expected for a distillery with such a long history. It was mainly utilised for blending purposes, whereby its spirit would contribute to popular blends of the time such as the VAT69 blend. However, in 1968 the distillery was closed and it lay silent until 1973 when it resumed production under the new ownership of Stanley P. Morrison ltd, unfortunately Stanley did not get to see the opening as he passed away in 1971 a year after officially taking over the distillery. The distillery was upgraded to increase capacity and production methods were improved too, the distillery also began to release its own single malt bottlings. The distillery was closed again in 1995 by new owners Suntory only to be reopened again in 1997 now with a less peaty taste profile. Despite the tumultuous history Glen Garioch presents itself now with a premium spirit rich in history.

About the cask

Our Limited Edition Glen Garioch was aged in an American Bourbon cask for 21 years, distilled in 1993 and bottled at cask strength 56.4% alc. The cask yielded only 250 70cl bottles of which only 35 will be available from the website.

This single cask release will follow all our previous releases in that it will be non-chill filtered with no colourings.

Tasting

Glen Garioch is usually associated with being only lightly peated, with soft floral notes and a delicately sweet and spicy taste. However, our tasting revealed, 

'Immense Sweetness and nuttiness with subtle toffee on the nose. Smooth with further toffee, nuts and butteryness on the palate.'

About the cask

This Single Malt Speyside Whisky was distilled on the 17th of October 1994 and aged in a refill Bourbon hogshead, cask number 1171. Bottled at cask strength with no colourings added - this is non-chill filtered.

TASTING NOTES

You will enjoy soft fruits such as melon, peach with hints of pineapple on the palate and nose. With a little water you can bring out a gentle sweetness of lemon pie flavour. In the aftertaste you can find the hint of mint toffee.

About the distillery

In the picturesque Western Highlands and next to the highest mountain in the British Isles sits the Ben Nevis distillery, one of the oldest licensed distilleries in Scotland. It is rumoured to have been founded in 1825 by ‘Long John’ McDonald born 1798 in Tolgulbin, who could reportedly trace his ancient family line back to the time of Robert the Bruce. Long John was a famous figure in Whisky folklore because he was one of the first illicit distillers to sell his own Whisky and he was apparently a giant of a man in height, strength and fitness. Queen Victoria even visited Long John’s Ben Nevis distillery in 1848 where she was presented a special cask dedicated to her son, the Prince of Wales, future King Edward VII. Closed in 1986 and fortunately reopened in 1991 under the new ownership of Nikka with the quality of Whisky improving thereafter.

The distillery sources its water from Alt a Mhulin which runs from Ben Nevis past the distillery into the River Lochy.

The Cask

This single malt Highland Whisky was distilled on the 3rd of December 1998 and aged in a Refill Sherry Hogshead cask, number 1407. It has been bottled at natural cask strength and there has been no colourings added - this is non-chill filtered.

TASTING NOTES

The aroma of banana malt loaf with sweetness and maltiness. A lucious sweet taste with a tad more fresh fruitiness. Water brings out more fruit and the vanilla cake mix flavour.

Our first grain whisky. This charming Highland whisky was a personal favourite of the Lady of the Glen team. Well balanced and golden with a fragrance of pear and a touch of peach on the nose. The key note of any decent Invergordon is vanilla and this grain was compared to vanilla ice cream. The richness and warmth of baked fruits, hazelnut with combined hints of pear and ginger gave this whisky a toasty in the mouth sweet and dry finish. With the addition of water you could enjoy a depth of new flavours as it took on a zesty dimension with hints of lemon peal. Charmingly young taste even though it is old.

This Whisky was from a single American ex bourbon cask and it was non chill filtered.
